Coping Through Covid

Author: Julie Bell, Owner/Operator

Living in the era of Covid-19 has been a learning experience for us all. I have noticed an interesting parallel process going on across the generations. At the beginning of the pandemic kids weren’t that stressed. They were excited about an extended spring break and naturally assumed their parents and the other “grown ups” had it figured out. #minecraft #fortnight

In a similar vein, most adults weren’t that stressed. They expected the government and leaders to come up with a plan and hopefully soon life would go back to normal. #bananabread But then... #thatdidnthappen So now, here we are. A community trying to protect ourselves and our loved ones. After 10 weeks, we want to help them survive but it is time to help them thrive as well! That has been a lot more difficult than it sounds. With frequently changing recommendations, distrust among powerful groups and the extremely fine balance of health and economy, most of us have been just as confused as our leaders must be. These are extremely unusual times! Life is hard enough on its own, but now with all of the extra stressors caused by this global pandemic, many people are being pushed beyond their ability to hold it all together. In addition, not having clear universal guidelines or norms makes us feel even more unsure. Journeys Family Counseling wants to help you with these issues. We know that all of the unexpected, unplanned changes caused from the pandemic have impacted your life in a myriad of unique and challenging ways. We don’t have all the answers about Covid-19, but we do know about human development, family dynamics, loss, educational issues, job and career issues, addiction, interpersonal relationships, parenting, divorce, blended families, special needs kids, homeschooling and what happens when stress is added to any of these issues. (Just to name a few.) So we want to help you. We also want to make sure you feel comfortable and safe so you can get that help.

As a result we are offering a wide array of services to meet your comfort level:

  • Touch-less payments for services: Log in to our client portal to pay your bill or your therapist can take card payments without touching your card.

  • At your request, our therapists are happy to wear masks and gloves during your session.

  • Outdoor "social distancing" visits at clients' home or a local park.

  • Tele-health services via TheraNest, Zoom, and others.

  • Limited client seating in the waiting room to keep social distancing a priority.

  • If the waiting room is full, you are welcome to wait in your car and therapist will call/text when she is ready for you.

  • We have a strict policy where counselors will not engage in face-to-face sessions if they have any symptoms.

  • All therapy rooms are sanitized between clients.

As counselors, sheltering in place isn't our real place. Our calling is to be on the front lines, helping our community. Our real place is serving you, meeting you wherever you are.
